Coraline | Marketing | Ghostly Motion Graphics | 2009 / by Shawn Sedoff

This was a fun, yet odd, project for me. In 2009 I was hired to turn the raw footage of the Ghost Siblings from Laika Studio's Coraline into a series of ghostly animations for a martketing promotion in New York. Other marketing events also accurred in Los Angeles, Miama, Boston, San Francisco, Georgetown and Chicago.

I will try to find the full 3 minute video to post to my website at some point, but my job was not animation, as I received the raw blue screen footage of the ghost characters on armatures from Laika studios, but it was to pull our the blue background, smooth the motions, make the ghosts apparate and disappear, and make them floaty. I also pulled out the button eyes and floated them around. This footage was then projected onto a completely transparent muslin screen that made the ghosts appear as holograms in a room that was physically built.

It was an honor to be trusted with such a valuable property.

This is an example from the store front.
