History Channel | Super City: New York | 2008 / by Shawn Sedoff

In 2007, I helped the company Creative Differences with a small History Channel Pilot episode that was to lead the way to a series of episodes on Big Cities in America. This first episode was on the island of Manhattan. One year later the series was not a go, but instead they turned the project into a 2 hour show titled Super City: New York.

"Peeling back layers of time shows Manhattan Island as it looked when it was discovered by Henry Hudson in 1609, then examines how people and nature have changed the landscape and speculates on the city's future."

The show finally aired on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 9:00pm.

Shawn Sedoff, aka SGS Creative, created all of the 3D animations for this show. All in 1920 X 1080 High Definition, which for a single animator in 2007/2008 was a big deal.

Shots included:

  • Multiple Fly Overs of the City
  • Underwater cut aways of the bedrock under the city
  • Cut aways of the Hudson River to show the changing of the channel
  • The underground Water Pipeline Before and After
  • Landscape recreation of the island before it was settled by man
  • The 5 Points Lake as man built around it in multiple eras
  • Underground water stations
  • City Peel Aways to show pipeline structures underground
  • Water Towers on tops of buildings
  • The building of the new Freedom Tower Time Lapse, based on designs from the time.

Animations can be seen on the 2010 Demo Reel.
